Introduction
World Book and Copyright Day is celebrated globally on 23rd April every year to promote the joy of reading, encourage publishing, and highlight the importance of copyright laws. On this occasion, PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya Karimganj organized an awareness session in the school library to instill reading habits among students and to educate them about the value of books and intellectual property.
Objectives of the Program
To create awareness about the importance of books and reading
To introduce students to copyright laws and ethical use of information
To develop creativity through a hands-on bookmark making activity
To encourage regular library usage among students
Program Details
The program began with a warm welcome by Librarian Ms. Nikita Patel, who introduced the significance of World Book and Copyright Day. She explained how books play a vital role in shaping knowledge, imagination, and personality.
An interactive awareness session was conducted where students learned about:
The history and importance of World Book Day
The concept of copyright and why it is important
Respecting authors' work and avoiding plagiarism
The benefits of reading books regularly.
Students actively participated in the discussion by answering questions and sharing their favorite books and authors.
Bookmark Making Activity
Following the awareness session, a creative bookmark making activity was organized for students. The aim of this activity was to combine creativity with reading habits.
Students were provided with materials such as:
Colored papers
Sketch pens
Crayons
Decorative items
They designed beautiful and colorful bookmarks with inspirational quotes, drawings, and messages promoting reading. The activity generated great enthusiasm among students and showcased their creativity.
Some students wrote quotes like:
"Books are our best friends"
"Reading is dreaming with open eyes"
The bookmarks were later displayed in the library, creating an inspiring reading environment.
Student Participation
Students from various classes actively participated in the program. Their enthusiasm and creativity were clearly visible during both the awareness session and the activity. The session helped them understand the importance of respecting intellectual property and encouraged them to develop a habit of reading.
